Statement by the
General Secretariat Regarding the Resignation of His Eminence Prof. Dr.
Muhammad Görmez
The General Secretariat of the
International Union of Muslim Scholars affirms that His Eminence Prof. Dr.
Muhammad Görmez, upon being appointed as President of the Islamic University of
Science and Technology—a position that requires full dedication, sustained
effort, and continuous engagement—consulted with His Eminence the President of
the Union, Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Qaradaghi, regarding his resignation from the
responsibilities entrusted to him, namely his role as Vice President and his
membership on the Board of Trustees.
Both parties agreed to present
this resignation to the Board of Trustees. Accordingly, yesterday, on 17
January 2026, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Görmez formally submitted his resignation from
these responsibilities and from his duties within the Union, stressing that
this decision bears no relation to any individual within the Union, nor does it
stem from any internal disagreement.
Following the publication of
Prof. Dr. Görmez’s tweet, communication was established with him, during which
he reaffirmed, in a message addressed to the Board of Trustees, the
aforementioned points—confirming the facts and putting an end to any misinterpretation
or unfounded claims.
As for the allegations
circulated by some, claiming the existence of a dispute between the two
respected scholars as the cause of this resignation, they are nothing but
baseless slander and false accusations with no grounding in truth. Almighty
Allah says:
﴿وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْذُونَ
الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ بِغَيْرِ مَا اكْتَسَبُوا فَقَدِ احْتَمَلُوا
بُهْتَانًا وَإِثْمًا مُّبِينًا﴾ سورة الأحزاب، الآية 58.
We supplicate to Allah Almighty,
by His Most Beautiful Names and Exalted Attributes, to grant our esteemed
Sheikh, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Görmez, success in his great mission and in his
Islamic and humanitarian message of spreading the religion of Allah throughout
this world; to bestow upon this university acceptance and divine blessing; and
to make it, for him, his colleagues, and all those who contributed to its
establishment, an ongoing charity until Allah inherits the earth and all who
are upon it.
