Protests Erupt in Turkey Against the Unjust Law to Execute Palestinian Prisoners and the Closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque

Several provinces in Turkey, including Kilis, Niğde, Diyarbakır, and İzmir, witnessed widespread popular protests on Sunday, denouncing the closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the law passed by the Israeli occupation to execute Palestinian prisoners.

In Kilis, citizens gathered in Republic Square at the invitation of the “Civil Solidarity Platform in Kilis,” holding banners reading "They Will Execute an Innocent People" and "Defend Al-Aqsa Mosque," while chanting slogans against the Israeli occupation.

In Niğde, citizens and representatives of civil society organizations organized a march after Friday prayers at the invitation of the “Anatolian Youth Association,” carrying Turkish and Palestinian flags and chanting slogans against the Israeli occupation and the United States.

During his speech, the association’s president, Masoud Oral, stated that the aggressive practices of the Israeli occupation are unacceptable, describing the law to execute prisoners as an attempt to subjugate the nation. He added that Al-Aqsa Mosque has been closed for over a month and is at risk of demolition due to excavations beneath it.

In Diyarbakır, protesters gathered in front of a shopping center in the Kayapınar district at the invitation of the "Lovers of the Prophet Endowment," chanting against the Israeli occupation and the United States.

Representing the protesters, Muzaffer Babar described the execution law as illegitimate and a crime against humanity, calling on the international community to take a firm stance. He emphasized that Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa Mosque, and Gaza represent a shared value for all humanity.

In İzmir, the “Anatolian Youth Association” organized a protest in front of the Basmanah Mosque, denouncing the Israeli occupation’s attacks on Iran, Lebanon, and Palestine, as well as the closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque. Participants carried flags and banners reading, "Jerusalem is a Religious Cause, Not a Geographical One."

The Israeli occupation has closed Al-Aqsa Mosque completely since February 28, citing the prevention of gatherings, as a precautionary measure amid the ongoing Israeli-American war on Iran.

On Monday, the Knesset of the Israeli occupation passed, with a majority of 62 votes in favor, 48 against, and one abstention, a law to execute Palestinian prisoners. The law applies to those accused of intentionally killing Israelis and currently affects 117 prisoners.

More than 9,500 Palestinians are held in prisons of the Israeli occupation, including children and women, amid human rights reports documenting violations such as torture, medical neglect, starvation, and even sexual assault, raising serious concerns among international organizations and human rights advocates.
