Malaysia: Mass Public Rally on August 9
Against Israeli Occupation Crimes and in Support of Palestinian Resistance
Kuala Lumpur – August, 2025
The Malaysian people are preparing to hold a large-scale
national rally under the slogan "Malaysia Rises for Gaza" on Friday,
August 9, at Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square) in the capital, Kuala
Lumpur. The event aims to denounce the ongoing crimes of the Israeli occupation
against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip and to call for urgent
international action to stop the genocide.
Sheikh Dato' Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz, President of
the Humanity for Gaza (H4G) coalition, stated during a press conference in the
capital: "We demand an immediate end to the killing and starvation
carried out by the Israeli occupation, and a total severance of all diplomatic
and economic ties with the occupying entity and its allies."
Wan Mohamad called on the United Nations, the
Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the international community to
take a firm stand to stop the aggression, stressing that the rally represents a
unified voice of the Malaysian conscience in support of the Palestinian
people's struggle for full freedom and independence.
He noted that all major political party leaders in
Malaysia have declared their full support for the rally, affirming that their
participation sends a powerful message to the world that Malaysia stands united
in its support for Palestine.
The organizing committee expects more than one million
people to participate either in person or through digital platforms. The events
will run from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM and include a variety of programs, including
speeches by religious, humanitarian, educational, and youth leaders, artistic
performances by Palestinian children residing in Malaysia, as well as awareness
segments and contributions from civil society organizations.
Humanitarian Catastrophe in Gaza… and an
International Failure to Respond
Coinciding with preparations for the rally, the Israeli
occupation continues its crimes in Gaza. International reports indicate that
Israel has closed all border crossings since March 2, 2025, blocking the entry
of food and medicine, resulting in a catastrophic famine that has claimed the
lives of 134 Palestinians, including 88 children.
UNRWA confirmed that malnutrition rates among children
under the age of five have doubled between March and June due to the
suffocating blockade.
On Saturday, Israeli forces committed another massacre
targeting displaced persons and those waiting for aid, killing 24 Palestinians,
including 13 who were waiting for assistance, according to medical sources.
Yesterday, 82 Palestinians were killed—49 of them while waiting for aid—and 554
others were injured.
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, since the
resumption of aggression in March, about 9,163 Palestinians have been killed
and over 35,000 injured. Since the start of the war on October 7, more than
60,000 Palestinians have been martyred, and 147,000 wounded in what is widely
viewed as an ongoing campaign of genocide, amid alarming international silence.
