IUMS Member Riadh Al-Majri Documents the “Caravan of
Steadfastness” from Tunisia to Gaza in a New Booklet
Riadh
Al-Majri, a member of the International Union of Muslim Scholars from Tunisia,
has published a documentary booklet titled “The Path of Steadfastness to Gaza”.
The booklet chronicles the experience of the “Caravan of Steadfastness,” which
set out from Tunisia as a serious Arab initiative to break the siege imposed on
the Gaza Strip.
This
work – in which Al-Majri recounts his firsthand observations as one of the
caravan’s participants – serves as a detailed documentation of the journey. It
aims to stand as a living testimony to one of the most significant grassroots
initiatives in support of the Palestinian cause.
The
author explained that the "Caravan of Steadfastness" was a vivid
expression of the awakened Arab and Islamic conscience, which has not remained
silent since the onset of the aggression on Gaza. The caravan represented a
notable act of practical solidarity with the besieged people of Gaza.
In the
booklet’s introduction, Al-Majri wrote: "I wanted to
share with all those who followed and sympathized with the caravan the details
of this experience, and to document this collective effort so that it remains
alive in the memory of future generations."
The
author focused on accurately and objectively narrating the events, steering
clear of ideological debates or political disputes, in order to preserve the
historical and documentary nature of the work.
He also
highlighted the grassroots efforts that sustained the caravan, showcasing the
diversity of its participants and their differing intellectual backgrounds,
while emphasizing their shared goal: supporting Gaza and breaking the siege.
Al-Majri
further noted the collective awareness demonstrated by the participants, who
were ready to transform this step into a sustained and institutionalized
initiative.
About the Author

About the Caravan
The
“Caravan of Steadfastness” was launched from Tunisia under the organization of
the “Coordination Committee for Joint Action for Palestine.” It was the first
serious Arab attempt to break the blockade on Gaza and included more than 1,000
participants from Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, and Mauritania.
The
caravan was described as “the first genuine Arab popular movement that shook
the Arab bloc out of passive observation and pushed it towards a civilized
protest in the face of the genocide being committed against the Palestinian
people – without resorting to armed struggle.”
However,
the caravan was ultimately forced to halt its journey toward Rafah after
exhausting all possible avenues to enter Egyptian territory, bringing the
mission to an end without achieving its final goal.
