IUMS Kurdistan Branch Holds Youth Scientific Program in Sulaymaniyah to Promote Moderate Thought

 

The Youth Committee of the Kurdistan Region Branch of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) held its monthly session of the annual scientific program under the theme: "Establishing a Balanced Moderate Thought", during the sixth month of 2025, with the participation of 30 young men from various cities of the region.

This session was distinguished from previous ones, as it was held for the first time in the city of Sulaymaniyah, after traditionally being hosted in Erbil. The program featured a comprehensive set of scientific, cultural, and spiritual activities.

Cultural and Spiritual Visits

Mr. Qani' Khurshid accompanied the participants on an educational tour to prominent landmarks in Sulaymaniyah, including:

·     The Grand Mosque and the shrine of Sheikh Kak Ahmad;

·     The Khanqah of Mawlana Khalid al-Shahrazuri al-Naqshbandi;

·     The shrine of the renowned Kurdish poet and scholar Mawhî;

·     The Hezhan Organization for Thought and Spirituality, where they were

·     welcomed by Dr. Tahseen Hama Gharib, who gave a lecture on the importance of scholars engaging with the humanities and elaborated on the concept of the Ummah.

High-Level Scientific Lectures

Over the following two days, participants attended five valuable scientific lectures delivered by a distinguished group of scholars and professors:

1-     The Noble Qur’an: The Primary Source and Standard for All Other Sources – Mr. Abdullah Nasrallah;

2-     Studies in Ijtihad and Taqlid – Dr. Omar Abdulaziz;

3-     Comparative Jurisprudence Among Islamic Schools – Dr. Diyar Muhammad Barzinji;

4-     Introduction to the Science of Maqasid al-Sharia – Dr. Hamza Khalifa;

5-     Introduction to Islamic Economics – Dr. Abu Bakr Al-Binjweni.

Participants also performed the Friday Prayer at Birayeti (Brotherhood) Mosque, where they listened to the sermon delivered by Dr. Ayoob Al-Zalmi, a member of the International Union of Muslim Scholars.

Spreading Knowledge

At the conclusion of the program, each participant received a copy of the Kurdish-language edition of the book "Introduction to Islamic Economics", authored by the President of the Union, His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Qaradaghi, and translated by Dr. Abu Bakr Al-Binjweni.
