Region of Iraq held its first regular forum under the theme: “The International
Union of Muslim Scholars – Objectives and Duties”, on Saturday, July 26, 2025,
corresponding to 1 Safar 1447 AH, with the participation of all IUMS members
from Kirkuk and its surrounding areas.
The
forum opened with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a welcoming
address delivered by Dr. Hamza Khalifa Rashid, IUMS member and head of the
Kirkuk division of the branch.
Dr.
Ahmad Wahab Majid, head of the IUMS branch in the Kurdistan Region, delivered a
lecture entitled: “The Righteous Scholar from a Qur’anic Perspective”, in which
he discussed the pivotal role of scholars in guiding the Ummah and embodying
divine knowledge. He emphasized that a righteous scholar is not merely a
speaker but a leader who enlightens the Ummah with his knowledge, actions, and
ethics. He strives to reform society, stand against deviation, and enjoin good
while forbidding evil with wisdom and strength.
Dr. Omar
Abdulaziz, a founding member of the branch, also gave a lecture entitled: “The
International Union of Muslim Scholars – Objectives and Duties”. He outlined
the Union’s mission as an independent scholarly body that brings together
scholars and thinkers from across the Islamic world. He stressed the Union’s
efforts to unify scholars’ endeavors, promote a balanced understanding of
Islam, and advocate for the Ummah’s causes, foremost among them Palestine and
Al-Aqsa.
He also
highlighted key duties of the Union, including mediation and reconciliation,
confronting media campaigns that defame Islam and Muslims, coordinating with
Islamic institutions for synergy, providing academic and educational training,
defending the freedoms and dignity of Muslims worldwide, and standing against
injustice and tyranny.
At the
conclusion of the forum, copies of the “IUMS Charter” were distributed to all
participants to enhance understanding of the Union’s goals and the mission of
its scholars in serving the Ummah.
