“Global Freedom Flotilla” Sets Sail from 39 Countries to Break
Gaza Siege and Expose Occupation Crimes
The
"Global Freedom Flotilla," an international maritime initiative
launched on July 10, 2025, has announced the beginning of its operational
movement toward the Gaza Strip. The flotilla includes popular delegations from
39 countries and over 50 ships carrying activists and humanitarian aid, in an
unprecedented attempt to open a humanitarian maritime corridor to the besieged
enclave, which has been under blockade since 2007.
The
flotilla is composed of a global grassroots coalition consisting of four main entities:
· The
International Movement to Gaza
· The
Freedom Flotilla Coalition
· The
Maghreb Resilience Flotilla
· The
Nusantara Resilience Initiative (Southeast Asia)
The
first missions are set to depart from Spain on August 31, followed by a second
mission departing from Tunisia on September 4, with thousands of activists from
around the world participating.
Objectives of the Flotilla
Organizers
stated that the flotilla aims to:
· Break
the illegal Israeli maritime blockade on Gaza.
· Deliver
urgent humanitarian aid to besieged civilians.
· Establish
a people-led humanitarian corridor after governments have failed.
· Expose
international complicity in war crimes.
· End
the ongoing genocide against Palestinians.
Initiative
leaders explained that the occupation forces often delay aid or turn it into
"deadly traps," noting that the ships will sail in international
waters legally, and that any Israeli interception would constitute "piracy
and an attack on civilian vessels protected under international law."
Global Action and Political Message
The
organizers described the flotilla as "more than just a maritime
movement" — it is "a global cry that Gaza is not alone, and that free
peoples will not remain silent in the face of starvation and genocide."
Despite
security risks, organizers affirmed that the real threat lies in
"remaining silent about the crimes of the occupation."
