Al-Qaradaghi Calls on Islamic
Countries to Recognize the Afghan Government and Praises Russia’s Step
Sheikh Dr. Ali Al-Qaradaghi, President of
the International Union of Muslim Scholars, praised Russia’s official
recognition of the Afghan government, which has been led by the Taliban
movement since 2021, describing the decision as "wise and moving in the
right direction."
In a tweet on his account on the platform
“X,” Al-Qaradaghi said this recognition reflects respect for the will of the
Afghan people and a practical acknowledgment of a political and security
reality formed by the efforts of the country’s own people, not under foreign
tutelage.
He added, "We had hoped – and still
hope – that Islamic countries would be the first to initiate this recognition.
We have pursued this with a number of leaders and foreign ministers, but today
we renew the call. Time does not wait, and the void will be filled by other
forces."
Al-Qaradaghi called for solidarity and
integration among Muslims instead of postponement and discord, stressing that
mutual recognition between Islamic governments and building bridges of
understanding and respect is the way to face external pressures and attempts at
marginalization.
He emphasized that the Islamic Emirate
government did not come to power on the back of a foreign tank but derived its
legitimacy from its people, their resistance, and its ability to impose
security and stability after decades of occupation and chaos.
He concluded his statement by asking,
"When will we learn that true recognition begins from within? When will we
support each other before others decide our fate according to their interests,
not ours? The time has come for the Islamic Emirate to be recognized by the
Muslims themselves, not to leave the matter hostage to ruthless international
calculations."
Russia Recognizes
the Islamic Emirate Government
Russia is considered the first country to
officially recognize the Islamic Emirate government since its takeover of Kabul
in 2021, after four years of international anticipation.
This step comes amid cautious openness by
several countries towards the movement without reaching the level of
recognition.
The Russian decision is viewed as an
important shift that may open the door to further international recognitions.
