The International Union of Muslim Scholars Condoles the Passing of Sheikh Ahmad Milad Qaddour, Member of the Libyan Fatwa Council

The International Union of Muslim Scholars extends its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Libyan people and the Muslim Ummah on the passing of Sheikh Ahmad Milad Qaddour, member of the Libyan Fatwa Council – may Allah have mercy on him. He was a distinguished scholar and devoted preacher, combining profound knowledge with sincere advocacy, humility, and scholarly integrity. He served as a reference in issuing fatwas, a guiding light in preaching, and a mentor to generations of students of knowledge.

The deceased left a lasting impact in mosques, institutes, pulpits, and media, both within Libya and abroad.

Birth and Early Life

Sheikh Ahmad Milad Qaddour was born in 1936 in Tripoli, in the Souq al-Jum’a area – Shat al-Hanshir neighborhood. He began his educational journey early, memorizing the Qur’an and receiving his initial instruction under Sheikh Taher Abdel Mawla and Sheikh Shukri bin Ahmad bin Hammadi – may Allah have mercy on them.

Pursuit of Knowledge and Academic Journey

Social circumstances and the passing of his father – may Allah have mercy on him – temporarily interrupted his studies.

He resumed his academic journey in 1957 at Ahmed Pasha Mosque in Tripoli, balancing work with study, and learning from renowned scholars including Sheikh Ali Al-Gharyani, Sheikh Abdulsalam Al-Bizanti, Sheikh Khalil Al-Mazoughi, and Sheikh Ali Hussein Al-Maslaty.

He enrolled in university in 1971 and graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Sharia, studying under esteemed professors including Sheikh Mustafa Al-Turki, Sheikh Omar Al-Janzouri, Sheikh Al-Tayeb Al-Naas, Dr. Ahmad Al-Khalifi, and Dr. Muhammad Al-Jarbi.

Scholarly and Preaching Roles

Sheikh Ahmad – may Allah have mercy on him – held numerous important scholarly and preaching positions, including:

·     Teacher and instructor at the Institute of Imamate and Preaching in Tripoli (1977) and its director (1983).

·     Teacher at the School of Islamic Arts and Crafts (1985).

·     Preacher and Friday Khateeb in Tripoli mosques from 1970, and mosque inspector until 1974.

·     Assigned to deliver scholarly lessons at the Holy Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina (1976–1980).

·     Sent by the Islamic Da’wah Association to several countries, including Portugal, France, South Korea, and Sri Lanka (1982–1985).

·     Host of the radio program “Al-Maw’idhah Al-Hasanah” on Tripoli West Radio (2005–2020).

·     Member of the Libyan Fatwa Council since 2012.

Contributions to Education and Preaching

Sheikh Ahmad – may Allah have mercy on him – continued delivering sermons during Ramadan at Al-Sanoussi Mosque on Omar Al-Mukhtar Street, teaching at Al-Naqah Mosque, and mentoring numerous students and scholars, leaving a profound impact on their scholarly and preaching careers.

We ask Allah Almighty to grant the deceased His vast mercy, reward him abundantly for his knowledge and preaching, grant him steadfastness during questioning, admit him into the highest Paradise alongside the Prophets and the righteous, and inspire his family, students, and loved ones with patience and solace.

Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.
