Scientific Seminar Highlights the Intellectual and Scholarly Contributions of Dr. Muhammad Taher Al-Barzanji

The Council of Scholars of Iraq organized, last Saturday, a specialized intellectual and scientific seminar at its headquarters in Shouaf Mosque in Baghdad, dedicated to exploring and highlighting the scholarly and intellectual contributions of Dr. Muhammad bin Sheikh Taher Al-Barzanji, a member of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, in the presence of a distinguished group of scholars, researchers, and students of knowledge.

The seminar was moderated by Sheikh Samir Al-Obaidi and Sheikh Dr. Mahmoud Al-Ani, President of the Council of Scholars of Iraq. It addressed Dr. Al-Barzanji’s prominent contributions in Sunni creed, characterized by a rigorous scientific methodology that combines doctrinal grounding with methodological precision, highlighting his scholarly conclusions in the schools of Imams Abu Hanifa and Al-Shafi’i, and his efforts to demonstrate points of convergence and reconciliation between the two authentic sources according to a balanced scientific approach.

The seminar also discussed his in-depth scholarly study of Imam Al-Tabari’s history, his role in verifying historical narrations and distinguishing the authentic from the weak, in addition to his contributions in highlighting the notable figures of the Muslim Ummah, while clarifying his methodological stance that avoids both extremism and neglect, affirming the Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama’ah approach based on justice and fairness.

Participants emphasized the crucial importance of these scholarly efforts in consolidating the moderate methodology, raising doctrinal and intellectual awareness, and confronting contemporary ideological deviations, stressing the necessity of reviving and disseminating such rigorous studies among students and researchers.

This seminar is part of a series of scientific and intellectual activities regularly organized by the Council of Scholars of Iraq, as part of its ongoing efforts to serve Islamic knowledge, highlight the contributions of contemporary scholars, and promote a balanced Islamic discourse that combines authenticity with modern relevance.
