Doha: Lecture Highlights the Objectives of the Quran and the Renewal of Islamic Thought

The Muslim World League held a scholarly lecture on the evening of Saturday, January 31, at its headquarters in Doha, titled “The Objectives of the Holy Quran and the Renewal of Islamic Thought.” The lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Jasser Auda, a member of the League’s Board of Trustees, in the presence of His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Ali Mohieddine Al-Qaradaghi, President of the League.

The event was part of a series of academic initiatives aimed at renewing contemporary Islamic discourse and thought.

Comprehensive Intellectual Enrichment

Dr. Jasser Auda emphasized the importance of intellectual engagement with the Quran in the current era, stressing the need to explore its objectives and apply them in daily life.

He outlined the seven methodological objectives: achieving the purposes, correcting concepts, categorizing groups, considering natural laws, emulating values, establishing sound reasoning, and implementing divine commands. He highlighted that these objectives form a foundation for restructuring academic disciplines and linking education to practical life.

The lecturer also stressed that Islamic intellectual renewal should remain independent of any economic, political, or architectural system, while focusing on Quranic objectives in areas such as spending and zakat, good governance, consultation (shura), urban development and aesthetics, as well as worship and faith-based culture. This approach, he noted, contributes to restoring the nation’s dignity and leadership.

Active Audience Engagement

The lecture witnessed active participation from attendees, who posed a series of questions and inquiries. Dr. Auda responded with precision and clarity, adding a distinctive interactive and intellectual dimension to the session.

Emphasis on the Jurisprudence of Balance

At the conclusion of the lecture, Sheikh Ali Al-Qaradaghi praised the presentation, affirming that Dr. Auda’s discussion on the objectives of the Quran fully aligns with the Jurisprudence of Balance, and underscored the importance of such events in promoting enlightened Islamic thought and fostering comprehensive scholarly awareness.
