On the Anniversary of the
Hijrah: Sheikh Ekrima Sabri Says Al-Aqsa Escaped Grave Conspiracies as the
Occupation Escalates Its Aggression
Occupied Jerusalem – Media Office
On the occasion of the Islamic New Year 1447
AH, Sheikh Dr. Ekrima Sabri — preacher of Al-Aqsa Mosque, head of the Higher
Islamic Council in Jerusalem, and member of the Board of Trustees of the
International Union of Muslim Scholars — called for drawing lessons from the
Prophetic Hijrah in patience, steadfastness, and unity. At the same time, he
warned of a dangerous escalation by the occupation authorities targeting
Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Hijrah: A
Foundation for Dignity and Unity
Sheikh Sabri affirmed that the Hijrah was
not merely a geographical relocation, but rather the foundation of a state
based on justice and dignity. He called on the Muslim Ummah to transform the
anniversary of the Hijrah into a practical turning point for protecting Al-Aqsa
Mosque and Islamic sanctities, strengthening Islamic unity, and rejecting the
divisions that have weakened the stance on Palestine.
A Bitter Year
Marked by Foiled Conspiracies
His Eminence pointed out that the past Hijri
year witnessed multiple assaults and restrictions on worshippers and was a
painful year for Jerusalem and Palestine. Al-Aqsa Mosque narrowly escaped
serious conspiracies — most notably attempts to perform "sacrificial
rituals" within the mosque — which could have ignited the entire region.
Sheikh Sabri stressed that continued
international and Islamic silence in the face of these actions would plunge
Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque into a dark tunnel. He called for taking religious
and national responsibility in protecting the First Qiblah.
Unprecedented
Escalation and Plans to Close Al-Aqsa
In a new warning, Sheikh Sabri said the
Israeli occupation is exploiting regional circumstances to seek the full
closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque and prevent worshippers from accessing it — a
flagrant violation of freedom of worship. He affirmed that this closure would
be the most dangerous since the Bab al-Asbat uprising in 2017.
He also pointed to the increasing incursions
by extremist Jewish groups and their attempts to perform Talmudic rituals
inside the mosque, in addition to the digging of tunnels beneath it — all with
direct support from the current Israeli government, which, according to him,
aims to inflame the situation in the region.
Salute to the
Steadfast and a Call to Scholars and Leaders
During his meeting with Jerusalem
dignitaries, Sheikh Sabri saluted the steadfastness of the people of Jerusalem,
the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, who continue to pay the price in defense of
Al-Aqsa despite the Islamic world’s failure to act. He warned that the
conspiracy of "sacrificial offerings" is ongoing amid a shameful
official silence from most Islamic countries.
His Eminence called on scholars,
intellectuals, and media outlets to fulfill their responsibilities in conveying
the voice of Jerusalem and the suffering of its people. He emphasized that
Al-Aqsa Mosque does not belong to a single group or state, but to all Muslims,
and warned that remaining silent in the face of threats to it is unacceptable.
A Message to
Leaders: Al-Aqsa Is a Trust Upon Your Shoulders
In conclusion, Sheikh Ekrima Sabri appealed
to the leaders of Arab and Islamic nations to make this new Hijri year a real
beginning for shouldering their responsibilities toward Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa
Mosque. He stated:
"This is a religious and moral
duty, not a political option. Al-Aqsa is a trust upon the shoulders of every
Muslim."
