Thousands of Moroccans Rally to Commemorate Ismail Haniyeh and
Support Palestine
Rabat –
In a poignant scene, thousands of Moroccans gathered in squares and streets
yesterday, Friday, to mark the first anniversary of the assassination of the
head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), the
martyr Ismail Haniyeh, and to express their ongoing support for Gaza and
Palestine in the face of escalating Zionist aggression.
In the
middle of the Parliament Square in the capital, Rabat, a young girl stood
holding a picture of the martyr Haniyeh, bearing his famous statement: “We will
never recognize the Zionist occupation,” while another boy held a sign quoting
a phrase he said in February 2024: “What the Zionist occupation failed to
impose on the ground will not be achieved through political intrigues.”
Around
the children, powerful chants echoed in the square: “From Rabat, greetings to
Ismail Haniyeh,” “No displacement, no settlement, down down with the Zionist
occupation state,” and “Haniyeh, we will never forget you... The entire
Moroccan people stand with you,” reflecting the strong presence of the
Palestinian cause in the hearts of the Moroccan street.
This
event was organized by the National Working Group for Supporting Palestine,
which held a symbolic vigil on the first anniversary of Haniyeh’s
assassination. He was martyred on July 31, 2024, following a Zionist airstrike
targeting his residence in Tehran during his participation in the inauguration
ceremony of the new Iranian president.
During
the vigil, participants paid tribute to the leaders and martyrs of the
Palestinian resistance, including Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, Mohammed Deif, Yahya
Sinwar, and Yasser Arafat, while condemning the ongoing policy of starvation
and killing in the Gaza Strip. They called for the urgent delivery of food and
medical aid and demanded a halt to all forms of normalization with the Zionist
occupation.
Simultaneously,
58 Moroccan cities witnessed the organization of 90 popular demonstrations
following Friday prayers, as part of the activities of the 87th “Al-Aqsa Flood
Friday,” called for by the Moroccan Commission for Supporting the Nation’s
Causes.
Protesters
raised slogans denouncing the Zionist massacres in Gaza and the West Bank, as
well as the continuous U.S. support for the occupation, demanding that the
Moroccan government end the normalization agreement.
They
also renewed their full support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people
and the brave resistance, affirming that the Moroccan street will remain a
vibrant voice for the cause and will not relent until the liberation of the
land and holy sites.
