IUMS: Assassination of Journalists in Gaza is a Brutal Crime
Requiring Urgent Action
Doha –
Monday, 11 August 2025
Sheikh
Dr. Ali Muhammad al-Sallabi, Secretary-General of the International Union of
Muslim Scholars (IUMS), described the assassination of the Al Jazeera news crew
in the Gaza Strip as “a clear act of terrorism aimed at silencing the truth and
eliminating witnesses to the crimes of the Zionist occupation.”
He
affirmed that targeting civilian journalists—whose only “crime” was conveying
the reality of what is happening in Gaza—represents a dangerous escalation in
the criminal policies of the Zionist entity. He pointed out that, through this
crime, the occupation seeks to prevent the truth from reaching the world and to
pave the way for committing “an even more horrific massacre than what we have
witnessed so far.”
He added
that this crime took place in the complete absence of any real international
deterrence or accountability for the leaders of the occupation, under ongoing
Western and American cover and support—something that encourages the occupation
to continue its bloody war against Palestinian civilians.
He
warned that the occupation’s machinery is “a criminal machine that respects no
human value,” stressing that the assassination of journalists is part of a
systematic plan to silence the voice of truth and prevent any witnesses to war
crimes. He asked, “If those who convey the truth are targeted, how can we trust
that the crimes will not escalate and become more brutal?”
He
emphasized that what is happening in Gaza is a genocide that has crossed all
limits, and that it is no longer acceptable at any level for these crimes to
continue. He stressed that the world bears a great responsibility today to curb
this behavior and put an end to it.
He
renewed the call for urgent action from the Arab and Islamic worlds to end this
tragedy, noting that “Palestine is the strongest bulwark against Zionist
schemes, and if it falls, the rest of the Arab world will fall one after the
other.”
He
explained that this crime is not separate from the occupation’s overall policy
in the Gaza Strip, which he described as “a genocide that has crossed all
limits,” warning of the dangers these policies pose to the security and
stability of the entire region.
He
concluded by stressing that the battle in Gaza between truth and falsehood
continues, and that the martyred journalists had fulfilled “a great mission in
exposing injustice and oppression,” affirming that in the end, victory will
belong to truth and justice.
Al-Sharif… the Voice and Resilience of Gaza
Since 7
October 2023, Zionist occupation forces have waged a campaign of genocide in
Gaza. For 22 months, Al-Sharif and Quraiqa documented the consequences of
relentless bombardment.
Al-Sharif
was subjected to extensive incitement campaigns, and his home in the Jabalia
refugee camp was bombed in December 2023, resulting in the martyrdom of his
father.
His page
administrators on “X” posted his will, written in April 2023, in which he said:
“I urge you to stand by Palestine—the jewel of the crown of the Muslims—and its
oppressed children. Do not forget Gaza, and be bridges for its liberation.”
Gaza Under Genocide… Thousands of Martyrs
With
American funding and support, the Zionist occupation continues its genocidal
war on Gaza—marked by killing, starvation, destruction, and forced
displacement—while ignoring international appeals and rulings from the
International Court of Justice.
The
genocide has resulted in the killing of more than 61,000 Palestinians and the
injury of over 153,000, the majority of them children and women, in addition to
more than 9,000 missing persons and hundreds of thousands displaced. It has
also caused famine that has claimed 217 lives, including 100 children.
