“Global Resilience Caravan” Demonstrations in Asia Demand Gaza
Blockade Lift, Condemn Israeli Crimes
Yesterday,
Friday, countries in South and Southeast Asia witnessed simultaneous
demonstrations as part of a global grassroots movement called the “Global
Resilience Caravan,” demanding the lifting of the blockade on the Gaza Strip
and condemning the crimes of the Israeli occupation, according to Nader
Al-Nouri, one of the organizers and a Malaysian activist who lived in Gaza for
several years.
The
marches took place in Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, the Philippines, and
Indonesia. Al-Nouri expects these demonstrations to continue across various
Asian cities, with the largest planned for next Saturday in the Malaysian
capital, Kuala Lumpur, with the participation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Nepal: Challenging Israeli Influence
In
Nepal, hundreds of people gathered in the capital, Kathmandu, to denounce
Israeli war crimes, noting that “Israeli influence” in their country has
obscured the Palestinian cause for decades, especially amid political and
economic instability.
The
Nepalese government’s neutral stance on international conflicts is largely
based on its political and economic interests with India and Western powers,
including the United States. The government has also rejected calls to halt the
export of labor to Israel.
Sri Lanka: Widespread Popular Solidarity
In
Colombo, protesters carried the slogan “Sri Lanka United for Palestine,”
holding banners demanding an end to starvation and genocide, while chanting
against occupation crimes and Western support for Israel.
A
solidarity festival was held at the historic Galle Face Green, attended by
political leaders and writers, including Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Radwa
Saleh. Intellectuals and politicians warned of previous Israeli attempts to
expand influence on the island, emphasizing the need to monitor any illegal
activities by Israeli citizens.
Maldives: Rejecting Israeli War Crimes
In the
capital, Malé, thousands of citizens and political parties participated in a
large solidarity festival, condemning occupation crimes and the blockade
imposed on Gaza.
Government
officials affirmed continued support for the Palestinian people, barred entry
to Israeli passport holders, and criticized statements by Israeli Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding settlement expansion in the West Bank.
