Malaysian Organizations Call for Urgent International Action to Save Palestinian Prisoners and Hold Occupation Accountable

Kuala Lumpur – Dozens of human rights and humanitarian organizations in Malaysia have called for decisive international action to rescue thousands of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails and to hold Israel accountable for systematic abduction and torture against the Palestinian people.

The call came during a solidarity rally held yesterday, Saturday, at the Kuala Lumpur Towers Park, commemorating the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Prisoners. Participants urged the international community to assume responsibility for the grave violations faced by prisoners under inhumane conditions.

Tian Chua, Secretary-General of the Secretariat for Solidarity with Palestine, stated that this initiative is part of a growing global movement spanning several continents to confront aggression, occupation, killings, and abductions. He emphasized that governments are not doing enough to protect Palestinian human rights, particularly the rights of prisoners.

Meanwhile, gynecologist Dr. Fauzia Hassan stressed that silence or complicity in the face of an extermination war constitutes participation in it. She called on peoples and governments to reject policies that perpetuate occupation under the guise of peace and to adopt strategies aimed at liberating oppressed populations, foremost among them the Palestinian people.

During the rally, Dr. Fauzia wore attire resembling the uniforms of Palestinian prisoners, symbolically reflecting her own past experience in Israeli detention following her arrest while participating in the Freedom Flotilla to break the Gaza blockade. She is the founder of the charitable initiative “From Rose to Rose” and a board member of the global “My Care” Foundation.

Zureida Qarnain, Chairwoman of the Malaysian Women’s Organizations Alliance for Jerusalem and Palestine, expressed deep concern over the plight of Palestinian women, highlighting shocking cases of occupation practices, including a female prisoner who gave birth in solitary confinement without any medical or psychological care.

Zureida affirmed that growing public solidarity and global awareness of occupation crimes offer a glimmer of hope. She stressed the need for combined popular and governmental efforts to rescue Palestinian women and free prisoners, describing these as fundamental human rights. She also called for intensified international actions, global demonstrations, and condemnation of the occupation in various forums.

Malaysian activist Maitraya Mutharalingam described the situation in Palestine as exposing the hypocrisy of Western human rights discourse, emphasizing that the occupation misleads the world by labeling kidnapped Palestinians as prisoners, while in reality they are victims and freedom fighters. He criticized the inability of international institutions to halt acts of extermination and predicted increasing isolation for Israel and its allies.

Concluding the event, Tian Chua asserted that Zionism entrenches a culture of violence within Israeli society, calling for breaking this culture and fostering awareness based on true justice and peace.
