Doha: Green Tent program discusses Islam’s role in enhancing social security with participation of the union president

The Qatari capital Doha hosted an intellectual seminar titled “Islam and Its Role in Enhancing Social Security,” organized by the Green Tent program in its twentieth edition, with the participation of a group of scholars and intellectuals, headed by the president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, His Eminence Sheikh Prof. Dr. Ali Muhyi al-Din al-Qaradaghi.

Seminar on Islam and social security

The seminar focused on the role of Islam in strengthening social security as one of the objectives of Islamic law, which aims to protect humans and society in various aspects of life—social, economic, political, and religious.

Participants affirmed that security is not merely the absence of conflicts, but a comprehensive system based on values and justice that ensures the stability of societies.

Security as one of the objectives of Sharia

In his intervention, al-Qaradaghi explained that Islam seeks to achieve tranquility and combat corruption through legislation and values that maintain a balance between the needs of the individual and society.

He clarified that the concept of security in Islam is comprehensive, not limited to the material dimension, but extending to psychological, social, economic, and even cybersecurity security in the modern era.

He pointed out that security is the opposite of fear and corruption, and that Islamic law came to build a society characterized by stability.

He also emphasized that security is achieved through a balance between internal and external dimensions; internal security stems from purity of the heart and spiritual tranquility, citing the verse: “Those who believe and whose hearts find comfort in the remembrance of Allah. Truly, in the remembrance of Allah hearts find comfort” (Surah Ar-Ra’d: 28). External security, meanwhile, relies on legislation that regulates social and economic relations and ensures justice.

Security through faith and legislation

Participants agreed that ethical values and fair legislation form a solid foundation for social security, enhancing societal cohesion and limiting manifestations of disorder.

They affirmed that the absence of values leads to disturbances that threaten societal stability.

The seminar is part of the activities of the Green Tent program, which is celebrating its twentieth year as a dialogue platform that brings together thought, science, and environment. It aims to discuss contemporary issues that contribute to raising awareness and supporting dialogue on societal challenges.
