President and Secretary-General Discuss the Situation of the
Islamic World and Review the Union’s Upcoming Projects
Doha –
At noon today, Tuesday, March 24, His Eminence Sheikh Prof. Dr. Ali Mohiuddin
Al-Qaradaghi, President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, held a
meeting with His Excellency the Secretary-General, Sheikh Dr. Ali Muhammad
Al-Sallabi, at the Union’s headquarters, immediately following the blessed Eid
al-Fitr holiday. The meeting was dedicated to discussing the latest
developments in the situation of the Islamic world, following up on the
progress of the Union’s work and its strategic projects, as well as reviewing
preparations for upcoming events and conferences scheduled for the coming
period.
At the
outset of the meeting, a comprehensive review was conducted of the current
challenges facing the Islamic world amid rapidly evolving political and
humanitarian changes. Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening the
role of scholars and academic institutions in guiding the الأمة (Ummah), promoting a discourse of moderation, and addressing
crises with a spirit of unity and integration.
The
meeting also addressed key topics related to the Union’s work, foremost among
them the follow-up on the implementation of the strategic plan and an
assessment of progress achieved in a number of vital projects, particularly the
“Civilizational Project.” The discussion reviewed
accomplishments to date and the next steps for expanding its implementation
through scholarly and media programs, in a manner that contributes to achieving
its goals of building civilizational awareness and promoting Islamic values.
The
meeting further touched on ongoing preparations for several important
international conferences, most notably the conference titled “Protecting the
Family in the Face of Contemporary Challenges,” which is being organized in
cooperation with a number of academic institutions and aims to explore ways to
safeguard the family and strengthen its cohesion in light of current
intellectual and social challenges.
Additionally,
both sides discussed preparations for an international conference on
“Islamophobia,” which seeks to highlight the growing phenomenon of hatred
against Islam and Muslims, examine its impacts, and develop scholarly and
practical approaches to address it at both the intellectual and media levels.
At the
conclusion of the meeting, the President and the Secretary-General stressed the
necessity of integrating efforts among the Union’s various bodies, committees,
and branches, and working in a unified team spirit to achieve the set
objectives. They also underscored the importance of the upcoming phase, which
requires greater coordination, accelerated implementation, and enhanced
scholarly and media presence of the Union on the international stage.
