The International Union of Muslim Scholars Condemns the Criminal Act Targeting the Mar Elias Church in Damascus (Statement)

At a time when Islamic law and all divinely revealed religions emphasize the sanctity of blood and the protection of human life, we are deeply shocked by the news of the terrorist bombing that targeted the Mar Elias Church in the Al-Dweila area of Damascus, Syria — an atrocious crime that claimed innocent lives and stands in stark opposition to all religious and human values.

In light of this tragic incident, the International Union of Muslim Scholars expresses its strong condemnation and deep denunciation of this cowardly criminal act. The Union affirms that Islam is completely innocent of such acts that terrorize peaceful civilians, target places of worship, and spread chaos and destruction.

The Union reiterates its firm stance in rejecting all forms of terrorism, violence, and extremism — regardless of the perpetrators or the pretexts under which such acts are committed.

The Union extends its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims, to the Syrian government, and to the brotherly Syrian people, praying that Syria and its people be safeguarded from strife and evil.
